In The Social Media
I'm sure you have heard of Google+ the new, shiny social networking site. The number of users signing up is increasing at a geometric rate so I thought it would be interesting to find some (very) simple statistics to see how it compares with other social networking sites.
I have decided to just stick with Google+, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and LinkedIn as these are well-known and are best used to get a grasp of the numbers involved. Below is a bar chart showing the number of users using the mentioned social networking sites.
As you can see there are nowhere near the number of users for Google+ as there are for Facebook, but I found this article which talks about the increase in users expected over the next few days.
Statistics were taken from:
- Google+ - Google+ To Pass 10,000,000 Users Tomorrow
- Myspace - Wikipedia Link
- LinkedIn - 100 million members and counting...
- Twitter - How Many Users Does Twitter REALLY Have?
- Facebook - Facebook's own statistics
Obviously these figures must be taken with a pinch of salt as there is much more detailed information available. There are those users who are signed up and don't use the social sites, those that use them several times a day and everything in between.
I wouldn't like to make a prediction of whether Google+ will be a complete success like Facebook or Twitter or if it will fail as I feel it is still too early to tell. But it is interesting that this early on it is not just SEO professionals that are signing up but those users that are treating Google+ as a real alternative to Facebook.
I welcome comments and will be interested to hear people's views on the success or failure of Google+.
I recommend...
